Results
From the research I’ve seen and my direct experience, the top factor that results in someone actually growing is:
Willingness to take action
I can help you take action, but I’m by no means the most important part of this equation. You are.
On my side, I’ve begun to meticulously measure the results of everyone I work with. That way you have a better idea of whether I’m any good or not. My dataset is small, but I am happy to share it with you. Just email. Below is a summary.
Quantitative
Clients were requested to evaluate how well they were doing in each of the following areas of their lives during our initial meeting, on a 1-10 Likert scale. At the end of our engagement, they were requested to do the same. The percentage is the overall improvement or decline in their self-reported ratings. I’ve included all of the clients I worked with for at least three sessions–no cherry picking.
It’s important to note that this data oversimplifies the personal growth story of each client, but nevertheless it is still informative.

And to balance the numbers above, here’s some feedback from people I’ve helped:
“That’s one of the best questions I’ve ever been asked.”
-CEO of an enterprise with 500 staff
“James, you have been nothing but a positive influence on my life. You are one of the most inspiring people I know. You have a spectacular combination of heart, raw intellect, and skills. *smiles*”
-Software engineer & seeker
“I don’t know which is scarier, your analyzing capabilities or your accuracy. My primary was indeed explorer, and secondary negotiator. You’re 100% on the mark.”
-Yoga instructor & entrepreneur
“Truth is, I thought your session was really good. You were warm, friendly and approachable. The exercises and homework you assigned to me were relevant, helpful and practical for me. I liked that you shared about yourself too. You made me feel at ease with you and you didn’t make it feel like a formal therapy session. I liked that you were sincere, interested, attentive, concern and compassionate and kind. The place you chose was good too. I liked the drink!”
-Special needs teacher (first session feedback)
